Lt Gen Rajendra Sinhji, DSO, the first General Officer Commanding of Indian Army's Southern Command, first mooted the idea of establishing Officer's Institute to provide a meeting place for Army Officers and their families to avail social, recreational and sporting facilities, thus RSI, Bangalore was established in 1961.
The Institute is an extension of HQ K & K Sub Area Officers’ Mess and has been redisignated as Rajendra Sinhji Army Officers’ Institute (RSAOI) wef 27 Aug 2016.
The RSAOI is today proud that it has 4000 Members from the Tri Services. Over the years from just small bar at the South Parade building, it now has Nirvana Bar, The Palm, The Nook, The Bayonet Lounge, 50 Emgee Banquete Hall, The Cavalier, The Wings – Rooftop Lounge, Quarter Deck, Multi Purpose Hall, full stocked Library, renovated Gym, covered Swimming Pool, Tennis Courts, Indoor Badminton Court, Squash Court, Billiards, Card Room, Cricket Ground, The Pit Stop, renovated Band Stand, Movie Moksha (Cinema Hall) & CSD Extn Counter with parking facility.
A major Metro junction is being constructed at Gate No 1 and will be functional wef Dec 2024. Wherein Members can come by Metro and be dropped at Gate No 1 besides, to the airport directly from the Metro junction. At present, Gate No 1 on Kamaraj Road is closed due to Metro underground construction. Inconvenience is regretted.
